How prices work
Where our prices come from, and what to keep in mind when you use them.
The GOV.UK Fuel Finder scheme
Fuel Finder is a government service that helps drivers find the cheapest fuel near them. It makes fuel prices available to third-party apps and websites, so motorists can compare prices easily. TankTicker uses this data. You can read about it on the GOV.UK Fuel Finder scheme page.
Under the scheme, petrol stations across the UK are required to report their fuel prices within 30 minutes of any change. The government says prices are published within 30 minutes of any change.
What the data includes
- current prices at each station, by fuel type
- forecourt details, such as the address, operator and brand
- amenities and opening hours
- a timestamp showing when each price was last updated
Before you fill up
Prices can change during the day, and there's a short delay between a change at the pump and when it reaches us. Always check the price at the pump before you fill up.
Spotted a wrong price?
Stations report their own prices. If you run a station and a price is wrong, please correct it through Fuel Finder. Drivers can let us know at [email protected].
